Over the four months of the Harlem Fine Arts Fair, the Spence Gallery will rotate art from the following eight seasoned artists, each with 20 to 50 years of practice:

Charly Palmer is an illustrious artist with a professional art practice that spans over 30 years. He is known for weaving the history, culture, contributions and celebration of African Americans into his art. Most recently he was responsible for the artwork on John Legend’s most recent CD cover and TIME Magazine invited him to do a cover in recognition of the Black Lives Matter movement and American Independence in 2021.

Carl Karni Bain channels traditional African sculptures into painting modern figures that communicate a sense of mystery and passion.

Ivan Ortiz’s deliberate abstract works invites you on a journey to quiet places. He uses imagery of urban decay, weathered, and abandoned spaces as a vehicle to express feelings of nostalgia. Strategically placed colours and bright curvilinear lines soothe the eye and provide visual trails.
Mario Angel charms with his figurative works painted from a dream-like perspective where images and meanings are not as clear as in waking life.

Nahum Flores has invented his unique process of layering photoimaging, water based and organic materials to create an abstract background on which he paints expressive characters and amorphous forms.

Pita Ohiwerei uses his signature version of impressionist painting to elevate the ordinary and the everyday. He balances improvisation with intention as he works creating paintings that are calming.

Shastri Maharaj’s paintings presents solitary figures set against vast clear skies and golden fields. In doing so, he explores universal human responses to the environment, such as silence and emptiness, at the same time, he provides a social and visual commentary on the landscape, people, and culture of his birthplace, Trinidad and Tobago.

Zoya Taylor’s paintings portray a cast of characters that demand our empathy; the characters represent individuals found between cultures, continents, languages, and the various stages in life.
