I am Joy Lyons, an abstract and figurative artist from the Metro Atlanta area. I have had no formal training in art and consider myself to be self-taught. I have always love to create art beginning in my childhood and even had desires to be an artist when I grew up. During a freshmen high school class my art work was harshly criticized and ridiculed by the art teacher in front of my peers. That experience created an obstacle for many years. It was many years later that I rediscovered my love for painting and committed myself to painting full-time. I love to paint and consider it to be my passion. I have been painting and exhibiting successfully for eight years now. I spent my first career as an educator, having served as a teacher and a school principal. I initially started painting as a hobby. However, through the positive reviews of family, friends and colleagues I began to show my work and was encouraged by the response to it. I have since participated in local and national shows. I have many collectors , both national and internationally. While I use a variety of mediums I prefer using oil and acrylic paints. I am inspired by the world around me and attempt to interpret it using colors, textures, shapes and lines. I enjoy playing with and exploring colors and finding ways to combine them to create compositions that are harmonious, balanced and beautiful. I am often complimented on my compositions and the use of color.
